Charitable Giving

Overview

We, at The Society of Leisure Enthusiasts, are utilizing our technology and partnerships to assist non-profits and charitable organizations to source quality vacation homes for their auctions and other fund raising events. We have created www.VacationHomesForCharity.org to highlight charities, homes and news regarding this new service.

In short, our goal is to make the process of donating time at a vacation home to a charity easy and efficient for all parties.

Benefits

Our charity program is truly one of a kind and offers many key benefits
  • Ease of Sourcing
    • Charity organizers can search properties to see what homes and week(s) are available.
    • Find homes that are going to pay for the cleaning/maintenance (increase the amount of money going to the charity) (or know in advance the total costs involved).
    • Invite other home owners to list homes for charities.
  • Ease of Transaction
    • Home data is stored in one place (pictures, description, closest airports, amenities, etc) so it's easy for the charity to print out/source pictures for the auction/event and to document the available time or any restrictions.
    • Send winner/recipient of the home use to the property profile for all logistics.
  • Logistics in Place
    • Rental logistics (cleaning, key exchange, etc) will be organized if home owner does not already have it in place.
    • Able to give a 3rd party value for the rental.
  • Trusted Source
    • Find homes via the trusted network of TheSociety.com.
    • Donors are assured that all personal data is kept private and confidential.
    • Bidders can bid in confidence that the home is going to be a great vacation property for their enjoyment

How It Works

Here is how our charity program works for all stakeholders involved:
  • Property Owners / Donors
    • Create a property profile on TheSociety.com [link]. The Society will host the details of the home (pictures, description, process of check in/check out, local information, etc).
    • Indicate which weeks of the year you are willing to donate or if there are any black out dates.
    • Choose the type or specific charities that can contact you to use your home for a donation.
  • Charities
    • Create a profile on The Society [link] (The Society will confirm the credentials of the charity before they can search homes).
    • Contact The Society at info@thesociety.com once you have created a profile.
    • We will work with you in finding available homes for your event(s).
  • Fees
    • No fees to list a home.
    • No fees for charities to participate.
    • Small transaction fee when a home is successfully won to cover actual costs (sometimes this can be picked up by the winner or the donor)

If you are interested in donating time at your home send us an email at info@thesociety.com (please have Donation Inquiry in the title)

If you are a charity or organization looking for vacation homes please email us at info@thesociety.com (include Charity Inquiry in the title)

Faqs

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions for donors:
  • Who can donate?
    • Anyone that has a luxury home that meets the minimum standards (http://thesociety.com/landing/classifications.php) can be donated.
  • How much time can i donate?
    • No cap on the amount of time you can donate. We ask that you offer at least a weekend as a minimum.
  • Can I donate only off-peak weeks?
    • The owner has complete control over which weeks/days are available.
  • What about possible damages?
    • During the stay a guest is at your property each vacation homeowner should treat them as they would a renter. Require the guest to pay a standard security deposit.
  • What is your pet and smoking policy?
    • Owners can mandate their rules. We typically say No Pets and No Smoking unless otherwise noted.
  • Who pays for cleaning and administration fees?
    • This can happen one of three ways, which is determined by the homeowner.
      • The homeowner pays the fees. This is tax deductible.
      • The charity pays for the cleaning (which is taken out of the winning bid).
      • The item buyer pays the cleaning fee (will be listed in the item description).
  • How do I proceed and what happens next?
    • Create a property profile online. Make sure to select “Available for Charities” in the Special Usage section. Then select what charities can contact you.
    • When a qualified charity has selected your home, you will get an inquiry.
    • For any other questions, contact us at 1 (866)789-8222 or info@thesociety.com.
