Deer Valley: The Ultimate Civilized Ski Experience

December 31st, 2009 by Mark

The State of Utah is known worldwide for its fluffy powder snow and diversity of resorts from the rustic Alta and challenging Snowbird to the family-oriented Solitude Resort and the always popular Park City Mountain Resort. Utah offers the winter sports enthusiasts a plethora of options. Yet, one resort without fail stands out. Rated #1 by Ski Magazine readers, this is a resort where nightlife is truly non-existent, a resort where snowboarders are verboten. A resort where deluxe service and the epitome of luxury are not buzz words, they are the mantra. This is Deer Valley.

Just 40 minutes northeast of Salt Lake City, Deer Valley is an exclusive mountain resort attracting VIP clients from around the world. Deer Valley is the resort for those seeking a skiing experience with luxury and service usually associated with the finest beach resorts and urban 5-star hoteliers. Deer Valley sets the bar for other resorts to aspire to; to date, none have.

Deer Valley offers unique, true ski-in/out opportunities.  Deer Crest, a neighborhood within the Deer Valley Resort, currently boasts over 50 of Deer Valley’s most impressive homes. Ranging from 6,000 to 15,000 square feet, these one-of-a-kind custom properties feature extraordinary architecture, detail, finishes and are thoughtfully constructed to take advantage of Deer Crests views, ski access and open space. Chalet owners build their dream homes in keeping with Deer Valley’s renowned mountain design and style. Literally mid-mountain, Deer Crest is a luxury location attainable by the very few. This is where you will find Casa Nova, a one-of-a-kind ski-in/out estate within the enclave of Deer Crest.

Casa Nova, named the Ultimate Villa Vacation by Robb Report (the only one in ski country), is the ultimate chateau vacation rental in Deer Valley.  This luxury estate offers true ski-in ski-out access to Deer Valley Resort and is located just minutes from downtown Park City. The13,000 square foot /1,207 square meter home boasts 7 bedrooms of which 4 are true master suites. To call Casa Nova a ski chalet is selling it short as the estate is literally a self-contained resort with sleeping options for up to 25 adults and children. With 11 bathrooms, no one will be waiting by the door.

Casa Nova offers guests opulence and amenities usually associated with the finest resorts (including an on-site concierge) spread over 4 distinct levels. Highlights include the main level of the home where many guests gather in the grand room with a baby grand player piano, dance floor, a service bar and magnificent views.  The screening room includes a THX sound system with a TruAudio “Bad Boys” speaker system and Vidikron “Scorsese” projector. The plush recliners make stadium seating at the local Cineplex seem like coach on a commercial plane.  With 345 movies on demand, you can open your own Blockbuster.

The kitchen is intimate enough for a private family yet can be utilized for catering and larger events. While the in-kitchen fireplace lends a warm glow, the wood-burning pizza oven will be a favorite for all guests (take and bake has never tasted better). Total seating in the kitchen includes 8 at the bistro-height bar and a breakfast nook for 8. Adjacent is the formal dining room with a 10’ diameter table which seats 14 and a fireplace for ambiance and for the romantic, dining by firelight. The heated dining terrace is perfect for pre-dinner cocktails by the outdoor fireplace.

Two of the four master suites are on the main level. The Toro Suite offers a king bed, fireplace and an en suite bathroom to envy. The round jetted tub is spa quality with views of the valley below. While getting ready in the morning or evening, consider the TV in the vanity mirror, no chance of missing your favorite morning news, the markets or the evening wrap up.

The Ibiza Suite is a beautiful king bedded master with fireplace and en suite bathroom including a raised tub with mountain views.  Ibiza is perfect for the one or two guests who want a private sanctuary on the main level of the home.

The upper level of the home features three additional bedroom suites all with king beds and en suite bathrooms. Also on this level is the library for those who may need to work (or just stay in contact) two workstations with high-speed internet, 4-line telephone, a printer/fax/scanner, club seating for 4 and for pure relaxation, 500 book titles and a private patio for an easy escape.

For the spa enthusiasts, an in-home spa is the ultimate indulgence. At Casa Nova, the spa area is called “The Spa at Casa Nova” offering facilities which put many larger spa facilities to shame. Guests can enjoy the exercise room with the most up-to-date cardio and resistance training equipment. The massage room is perfect for that post ski-day or hike. Both the steam room and sauna seat 6 in comfort. The hot tub seats 9, just do not argue over the audio feed. A changing room with full bathroom is included in the spa area.

Adjacent to the Spa is the family room including a billiards table, 60” flat screen with Xbox, game table, an oxygen bar (yes, you are in the mountains), wine cellar, seating for 10 at the bar and bistro table and stone fireplace. For the children, the adjacent “Bunkhouse” is the ultimate retreat with eight bunks (6 twin beds, two full beds), their own 42” flat screen, iPod dock and two full bathrooms (so even the kids will not fight over bathroom access.

The Ski Level which is popular year round provides amenities few homes have including The Lodge, literally patterned off a private ski run with 13 custom-built ski lockers, each with boot and glove warmers. A fireplace, two flat-sceen TVs, a bar/kitchenette for immediate apres ski snacks, an out door firepit and of course, a hot tub with seating for 10. All this within 20 feet of a private patrolled ski run.
In addition, on the Ski Level is the Laredo Suite accessed via a secret passageway with a private living room (seats 6) and bunks beds with 1 full and 1 queen and a bathroom, the perfect guest quarters for staff, children or for those who want total privacy from the main estate.

As mentioned, Casa Nova provides an on-site concierge to complete the unique and most lavish vacation experience. During winter months, the on-site concierge is available 24/7 to assist with any request including; ski valet; airport transfers in luxury 4WD SUV; shuttles to all off-site activities (as available)
