Summer Season Rental Opportunities in the Northeast

April 8th, 2010 by Joseph

In the northeastern United States the summer seasonal rental has been popular since early settlers wished to escape the congested trading posts (now major cities) for the hills and beaches during the summer months. In the 1955 hit movie The Seven Year Itch the wife and kids head to the country for the summer while the husband stays behind in the city and is tempted by his new neighbor, Marilyn Monroe.

While we cannot offer a situation to The Seven Year Itch we do have two excellent summer season rental opportunities to consider, one in East Hampton, New York, the beach community known worldwide. The other, a true farmhouse in the hills of Bucks County, Pennsylvania renovated to meet the demands of the luxury client.

East Hampton is considered the summer playground for New Yorkers and others worldwide who wish to “see and be seen.”  In the charming enclave of East Hampton it is not uncommon to see Steven Spielberg and family playing in the sand at Main Beach or Sir Paul McCartney dining at Nick and Toni’s. The community of East Hampton is an idyllic setting beautiful beaches, serene woodlands, a charming town center (with retailers rivaling most major cities) yet all ensconced in a laid-back atmosphere of summer relaxation and fun.

Our Whale Rock House is East Hampton personified. Redesigned as a modernist masterpiece, Whale Rock designed by Eisner Design pays homage to the modern architects who make East Hampton their proving grounds from the late 1960’s to today. Houses designed by Richard Meier, Charles Gwathmey, Robert Venturi, Norman Jaffe and others transformed the rolling landscape of potato fields and sand dunes into an agglomeration of the finest modernist homes within one community.

Whale Rock is situated on a private lot in the woods of East Hampton. Just minutes from the center of town and ocean beaches, yet offering privacy and serenity not usually found in the Hamptons. With three bedrooms, an expansive living room, dining area, gourmet kitchen, all on one level, multi-generation families will be most comfortable. The modernist interior is based on function yet unlike many modernist structures exudes a sense of welcoming and renewal.

As the lazy days of summer demand guests enjoy the outdoors, Whale Rock is designed to transition between the indoors and outdoors. The private lot surrounded my mature woodlands is literally paparazzi proof. The in ground heated pool is welcoming for morning laps or an evening dip. The patio area, perfect for dining al-fresco. If your summer plans include East Hampton, Whale Rock is a home to consider.

Bucks County Pennsylvania is an enclave most popular with the New York and Philadelphia residents who desire to escape their cities for a summer in the wooded hills of eastern Pennsylvania less than two hours from either city. Bucks County is known for its diverse collection of towns, many dating back to the Revolutionary War. The towns continue to retain their charm with many storefronts dating from the 1800’s. For many city-dwellers, Bucks County is the antidote to their hectic lifestyles in the “urban jungle”. Warm days give way to cool nights and the summer sun sets beyond the woodlands. With the late sunsets, many guests begin the evening with wine and cheese and fire up the grill once the sun sets.

Weekend days may begin with brunch in town, window shopping, a jog on a path used by Revolutionary War soldiers or taking the kids and grandkids to the Crayola Factory. Our Bucks County Luxury Farmhouse is the perfect country home base for a carefree summer.

Driving down a winding country driveway, this stone country house is a fabulous combination of New York chic and Bucks County charm. The estate sits on 65 private acres of rolling lawns, country gardens and woods with walking trails shielded from the summer sun by a dense canopy of foliage.

The farmhouse, one of the most  gorgeous property’s in Bucks County  is located in Tinicum Township, the most desirable area of Bucks County. Situated a mere 80 minutes drive from NYC and 60 minutes drive from Philadelphia. It is just minutes from the Delaware River and the historic Canal Towpath, an excellent area for jogging and  biking or just enjoying the scenery. The estate is very private and tranquil, but not far from New Hope and Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and the quaint New Jersey Delaware River communities.

This country estate is the perfect place to entertain friends and family throughout the summer and is extra special during the Thanksgiving and winter holidays when the lush green rolling hills are blanketed in white. Skylights flood the gourmet kitchen with light, and French doors open to a trellised patio where guests enjoy their morning coffee and watch the deer and fawns visit the stream at the edge of the lawn.

The charming dining room with walk-in stone fireplace and old wood paneling is wonderful for intimate country evenings but large enough for dinner parties with friends. The rear of the house is graced by a library and living room with working fireplace.

The three-story house has five bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms with interesting architectural details and quaint nooks throughout. The gated and landscaped pool area has a heated pool that will remain through mid-October, weather permitting.
