Families love Spring Break in Beaver Creek

March 1st, 2010 by Joseph

A few weeks back, we profiled a vacation residence recently added to the inventory of The Society. The home, Chateau Le Grande generated comments including the request for additional background information concerning Beaver Creek and other vacation rental opportunities within the enclave beyond the guard house.

Even though Beaver Creek as a resort has been in existence for almost a generation, the area continues to evolve based on the demands and desires of the luxury vacationer, usually with family in tow. While many resorts have evolved over the generations, Beaver Creek was literally designed and constructed to make the resort experience, winter and summer a most enjoyable one.

Spring Break is one of the most popular vacation times for Beaver Creek. In general most guests gravitate towards the “Town Plaza”. The Plaza is a large expanse dominated by a year-round skating rink. The open-plaza design is ringed by shops, restaurants, galleries and above the 1st levels, vacation flats. The vast majority of dining options can be accessed via the plaza, with others located within some of the lodges.

From the plaza, guests can use the escalator to access the base of the slopes for skiing and other mountain pursuits.  Tip: Remember the escalators; at the end of the day, as families descend from the base area, Vail Resorts provides freshly baked cookies by the escalators, true après-ski family style.

Keeping in the family theme of the resort, activities are oriented to adults and children. Consider a horse-drawn sleigh ride dinner to the on-mountain Beano’s Cabin or take in a performance at The Vilar Center. Enjoy pizza at Blue Moose and then do some skating on the rink, or sit by one of the open firepits with a gelato and hot cocoa.

As mentioned a few weeks back, Chateau Le Grande is just one of a select collection of vacation rentals associated with The Society in Beaver Creek. For those who wish for a ski-in/out location yet just steps to the plaza, we suggest our Ski Safari with 4 bedrooms which sleeps 10.  Others who may be in search of additional space and a sense of privacy and exclusivity, our Private Getaway, a luxury home on Holden Road with 5+ bedrooms sleeping 14 guests is perfect. While not ski-in/out, just minutes from the slopes via Beaver Creek’s Dial-a-Ride Service. In neighboring Bachelor Gulch, where privacy and exclusivity are paramount, a truly spectacular ski-in house can be provided on Daybreak Ridge, the pinnacle of mountain luxury. Truly isolated yet ski-in and just minutes from the Bachelor Gulch base area. Finally, those who desire expansive space within a condominium building, our 6 bedroom luxury penthouse at the ski-in/out Horizon Pass development is truly over the top, literally.  At the end of the day, we suggest indulging in the hot cider and cookies après –ski at The Ritz-Carlton.

Not Exactly Roughing It in Beaver Creek

February 18th, 2010 by Joseph

As the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics are upon us, a little known fact outside of Colorado. Beaver Creek was conceived as a purpose-built Olympic venue for the 1976 Games until Denver voters turned them down. Lucky for us skiers and boarders, Beaver Creek was built and is now considered a world-class luxury resort. A true escape from reality once guests cross the gate-house at the entry.

For many guests of the resort, Beaver Creek represents what the winter resort experience should be. An excellent mountain with terrain ranging from mild to challenging including village-to-village skiing. An inviting base area offering a year-round outdoor skating rink, escalators to the mountain, heated walkways, excellent family-oriented dining, multiple spa options and world-class shopping from clothiers to art galleries to my personal favorite, gelato.

While a guest may spend their days on the slopes (or golf course during the summer months), the lodging component and associated services of the guest experience is paramount. Thus, may we present Chateau Le Grande, a 5 bedroom estate within the resort of Beaver Creek.

Chateau Le Grande, like Beaver Creek itself was designed to enhance the vacation experience. Located on a prestigious lane, the home is situated to take advantage of the unparalleled views including the surrounding mountains and lush fairways of the golf course. Built with multiple levels, the 5 bedroom home (sleeps 10 in luxury) was designed with gathering and nesting rooms for all to enjoy.

The main level is dominated by a living room appointed with large and comfortable leather seating and a custom stone wood-burning fireplace (yes, the crackling of a wood fueled fire is available) all encapsulated with vaulted ceilings and massive windows to take advantage of the outdoor scenery. Adjacent is the country kitchen with its custom wood cabinets and professional appliances perfect for the home chef or the caterer. While the breakfast bar is perfect for a casual snack, the dining room which seats 10 is the spot for a relaxed fondue or a formal dinner. The game room invites guests to enjoy an after-dinner spirited game of billiards or slip outside to the private hot tub for a soak under the stars.

The two upper levels of the home offer three (3) bedrooms, including the master suite on the top level and an additional guest bedroom, both with king beds. Guests of the master suite will enjoy the en-suite bath with steam shower and adjacent private office. On the intermediate upper level is an additional bedroom with two (2) queen beds.

The Ultimate Holiday Present: Christmas Week at Village Walk in Beaver Creek

November 18th, 2009 by Joseph

While Beaver Creek set the standard for luxury ski resort accommodations, Village Walk set the bar within the resort itself. Constructed in 2007, the Village Walk enclave became the most sought after lodging option in a community known for its luxury and amenities.

Our Village Walk home on Beaver Creek Mountain is a spacious and luxurious 4 bedroom design featuring direct ski-in/ski-out access from the residence to the “Dally” ski run, the home features high-end finishes and furnishings, a gourmet kitchen with top of the line appliances, granite countertops and custom cabinetry. The home also features vaulted ceilings, a soaring rock fireplace in the great room and state of the art electronics. In addition to the 4 bedrooms (the master suite is located on the upper level for the utmost in privacy, while the other bedrooms are on the ground level); there is also a ski room, an outdoor private hot tub that is accessible from 2 lower level bedrooms and a 2 car garage.

After a day on the slopes, while the home is most inviting and relaxing, the location is premier. An easy walk to the core of Beaver Creek Village for a hot cocoa by the skating rink, dinner at one of the many family-friendly restaurants, a show at The Vilar, the opportunities are endless.

Perfect for families including multi-generational, those with “Nannies”, friends or groups as the homes sleep 8 in luxury and comfort. Even better, the exclusivity of Village Walk during the holidays, the ultimate present.

Ritz-Carlton is Updating, Are You?

November 12th, 2009 by Joseph

Two of the more popular Ritz-Carlton Destination Clubs (Aspen Highlands and Bachelor Gulch, Beaver Creek) are currently refurbishing their properties for members and guests alike for the upcoming 2009/10 winter season.

In Aspen Highlands, a “mountain elegant” design concept is being executed mixing furnishings of heirloom quality with “green” oriented and sustainable furnishings including low VOC paint, sustainable woods, new large flat screen televisions and other amenities to keep the upscale standard fresh and inviting.

In the Bachelor Gulch property, there is an emphasis on using natural elements and colors and textures of the Rocky Mountain region. Design elements include the use of 100% wool area rugs, Moore & Giles leather on lounge chairs, fireplace benches and bar stools. Colors including red, green golden and rust tones are being incorporated to reflect the surrounding area and the change of seasons.

While one may think, “Well. Ritz-Carlton has the money to embark on renovations” the message is staying fresh and relevant. While upgrading and furnishings are costly, the return on investment cannot be discounted. In the present market cycle of competition, the most in-demand vacation rentals will be those most updated. Long gone are the days of shag carpet and vinyl furnishings which were trumped by location, location, location. Travelers want it all. A few suggestions:

  • Design based your location and enhance the theme. A house in the mountains with a nautical theme may not be the most inviting (unless it is on a lake or body of water)
  • Consider impact when budgeting: The entry way is a first impression as are the living/social areas. Spend the money to achieve the most impact.
  • Bathrooms: Upgrades such as luxury towels and upscale amenities can go a long way. Consider local products for their uniqueness and cost-effectiveness.
  • Going Green: Pitch the “Green” message i.e. “we use locally sourced furnishings and amenities to 1) assist the local economy and 2) reduce our carbon footprint due to shipping and handling.

Hire a Designer/Contractor: With the down economy, many in the design and construction trades are looking for work and clients. Negotiate the best deal possible. Consider volume work i.e. working on multiple homes. Do not hesitate to negotiate the best rates. Even furniture retailers are open to negotiation, especially on bulk purchases. One of our partners, Dhalgren Duck is an excellent resourse concerning design and preparing a vacation home rental into a ”turn-key” opportunity.

Holidays in a vacation rental, making it memorable

November 4th, 2009 by Joseph

One of the many advantages of a vacation rental during the December holidays is the opportunity to make your lodging “personal and memorable”. From the Rocky Mountain West to the beaches of Mexico, Florida and the Caribbean, celebrating the holidays infused with generations of tradition (or make some new ones) in your vacation residence can provide memories to last a lifetime. We interviewed a few of our partners who offered some ideas:

Ski Holiday: A mountain vacation in the mountains during December guarantees a “White Christmas”. Our mountain managers suggest the following:

Holiday Décor: Request a Christmas Tree. The tree can be delivered and decorated prior to arrival. To keep the family traditions, consider shipping a small selection of ornaments to the management company prior to your trip. When you arrive, you and your family can place the “finishing touches” on the tree. Few destinations during the holidays rival our Ski Safari Chalet in Beaver Creek, CO. Families will enjoy the spacious 4 bedrooms which sleeps 10 in luxury. Even though true ski-in/out, we suggest apres-ski in the village with a hot cocoa and gelato just a short walk from the chalet.

Gifts: Consider having your gifts shipped to your vacation home rental. Imagine opening gifts by the fireplace watching the falling snow and the twinkling lights of the town. Or, if you desire a forested setting with evergreen trees covered in snow, consider our 3 bedroom condo in West Vail which accommodates 14, just minutes from the slopes yet set within a beautiful valley of mature aspens and evergreen trees, the finest mountain setting for the holidays and beyond. When its time to return home, have the larger gifts shipped.

Skis/Boards: Anyone on your gift list receiving new skis, boots or boards? If yes, ask the managing agent which retailer they prefer and order the equipment to be delivered to the vacation residence. Concerning boots, be sure to use a reputable retailer with a boot-fitting specialist. Bows and gift-wrapping are optional.

Christmas Dinner: The finest restaurants will be booked for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the weekend that follows. If you do not wish to cook, consider a private caterer or chef. Full formal meals can be delivered and re-heated or prepared on-site and professionally served, the choice is yours. Having a holiday party, have TheSociety.com assist you in securing a Butler for your event.

Lift pass deals around the Rocky Mountain West

October 26th, 2009 by Joseph

We understand the ski chalet or flat rental is one of the most important aspects of your winter mountain vacation. While our management partners at The Society will insure your mountain lodging offers the superior value only available via a vacation rental, we wanted to provide our readers with additional information concerning lift pass deals at the most popular mountain resorts:

Lift Passes: In Ski Country, many options and great deals are available for skiers/boarders. If you plan to ski/board in more than of 6 days this season, consider a season pass as follows:

Colorado:

Epic Pass: The Epic Pass is the “granddaddy” of bargains. For $599, skiers and boarders have unlimited access to the slopes of Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Breckenridge and Keystone. The pass pays for itself after approximately 6 days of skiing. NOTE, THERE ARE NO BLACKOUT DATES! In Vail, may we suggest a lovely 3 bedroom/ 3 bathroom flat, sleeps 16 in West Vail, just minutes to the slopes and with the luxury of a wood burning fireplace.

Summit Pass: For those who plan to ski mostly in Summit County, the Summit Pass is a great deal. For $399, you get unlimited access to the slopes of Keystone, Breckenridge and Arapahoe Basin. To go with your pass, we suggest The Chateau at Trappers Glen, a luxury 6 bedroom private home which sleeps 18 offering private seclusion above the snowflake lift in Breckenridge. In the evening, apres ski in the private hot tub and walk to dinner along Main Street.

Rocky Mountain Super Pass: For $399, The Rocky Mountain Super Pass is the best product for unlimited access to Winter Park / Mary Jane and Copper Mountain throughout the 09/10 ski season.
