Logan River is a public course located in the low lands of Cache Valley. Most holes are surrounded by marsh or water. It's critical to keep your shots in play to score well.

Not particularly long, this course makes up for lack of length with tight fairways and a challenging layout. A smart golfer will leave his driver in the bag throughout.

The front nine seems to be a little more open than the back and can be somewhat forgiving. Number three offers a risk-reward over the lake to this dog-leg right par 4. You'll need an accurate, long ball to be putting on your second shot. Number nine is a long par 5 that is reachable in two for only the longest of hitters. I recommend a solid tee shot, followed by a measured second to set-up an easy approach.

The back nine is a wet, marshy disaster for errant shots. Every hole is bordered by water, cat-tails, or OB. Again, it's not necessary to bring out the driver. Fairway woods and long irons off the tee will get you plenty of distance and help keep your ball dry.

The par 4 18th requires a straight tee shot to a semi-hidden green thanks to a large tree located on the front left side of the green. The pin placement and tee shot dictate just how hidden. A second shot must carry a small drainage the crosses in front of the green, but should not factor into well hit balls.

Logan River can be very frustrating if your having a bad day with your accuracy. It's not uncommon to see scuba-divers late in the day retrieving dozens and dozens of balls from the many lakes. Fortunately for the beginner golfer, these balls are put back on sale in the pro-shop for a discount price (The Fish Bowl).

For the accurate player, Logan River can be a great day on the course. It can get a little muggy in the summer and DON'T forget the bug repellent.
