I can't say I've played near every airport but this one has to be one of the best. Buffalo Run is one of the few links style courses in Colorado and its worth making the effort to play. It's quite a drive from Denver (but so is DIA).
If you're making travel plans to Denver; just move your early morning flight to 2pm and get in a round before you head off. You won't regret it.
I am a big fan of Buffalo Run because when you play there, you feel as though you have discovered a diamond in the rough. This course is so cheap to play compared to other courses of this quality, and its true links style may be a unique and rewarding experience for the golfer who is getting tired of playing courses surrounded by a community of houses and trees. Neither trees nor houses will be found on this course, and Buffalo Run is really just tucked away in the middle of nowhere. For this reason, it is likely going to take a lengthy trek to get to this hidden gem of a course, and in all seriousness, it is kind of hard to find. If I remember correctly, my golfing party felt as though we had gotten lost and that we must have taken a wrong turn, until finally we just sort of stumbled onto the course. However, this course more than makes up for the hassle of getting there when you see the views to the west, and when the kind person at the pro shop tells you the modest cost of 18 holes. The restaurant is great too. My advice for playing this course is to try to manage the course and play smart. The openness feeling may convince you to pound away with the driver and make the risky plays, but you can get yourself into trouble pretty easily if you don’t hit these fairways. Although, you may have to hit your driver on hole 13…It’s a 260 yard par 3 from the tips!!
