Located in the Wasatch Cache National Forest, Alta was opened in 1938 and is one of 4 ski areas in the U.S. that is skier-only. Alta is one of the top mountains for snowfall in the country, receiving over 500 inches of snow annually. This mountain also has terrain for every type of skier, with an emphasis on intermediate and advanced ability levels. Alta offers group and private lessons for all abilities. There is also a Children's Center for kids 6 weeks to 12 years old. Alta Ski Lifts Company owns and operates the ski area themselves, while all other businesses in the area are privately owned. This allows the mountain to focus just on skiing while the restaurants and shops can work alone on their business to provide you nothing but the best.
