Lucca is located in the Tuscany region of Italy and is unique in that it is mainly on flat ground, and also enclosed by walls. Its most distinguishing feature is the Guinigi Tower, which is available to climb in order to see the panoramic views of Lucca. Or if you prefer to stay closer to ground, bikes are available to ride around the three-mile enclosed city.
The dining is superb, as it is in all of Tuscany, but the small town is known for Ristorante Buca di Sant’Antonio, which is where Giacomo Puccinii and Ezra Pound used to dine, making it a common tourist attraction.
Additionally, there are many beautiful churches in this region, most having been around for centuries, which house such important artifacts as the Volto Santo, which was believed to be carved at the time of the crucifixion. (This is located at the Romanesque Duomo di San Martino). Lucca is a year round destination, with mild winters and pleasant summers, making it a perfect destination for jet-setters and families alike. |
